Foreclosure prevention services are offered in cooperation with our affiliate Home HeadQuarters.
Currently, the Foreclosure Workshop is offered online only on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

STEP 1: UNDERSTANDING & PREVENTING

FORECLOSURE WORKSHOP

This free, 2-hour informational workshop will explain how the judicial foreclosure process works in New York State; what your options are to avoid foreclosure; and what to expect once the bank files a foreclosure action against you including:

  • How to fill out a hardship application

  • How to work with your bank or servicer

  • Financial fitness and your budget

  • Modification, short sale, and deed in lieu

  • Filing a pro se answer

  • Settlement conferences

Attending this workshop is the first step to preventing foreclosure and is a pre-requisite to participating in the HomeOwnership Center’s Foreclosure Prevention Program. Workshops are taught by our trained foreclosure prevention and housing counselors.

STEP 2: FORECLOSURE PREVENTION COUNSELING

After you have attended the workshop, you can schedule a one-on-one joint consult with a foreclosure prevention counselor and an attorney from our partners at Hiscock Legal Aid Society who will review the situation, develop a personalized action plan and assist as necessary.
